What is a wiring harness?

2025-11-10

A wiring harness is a wiring component that connects various electrical devices in a circuit.

The wiring harness is composed of insulating sheaths, terminal blocks, wires and insulating wrapping materials, etc. In order to facilitate installation and maintenance and ensure that electrical equipment can operate under the harshest conditions, wires of different specifications and colors used by various electrical devices throughout the vehicle are reasonably arranged and combined into one. The wires are then bundled with insulating materials, which is both complete and reliable.

The wiring harness is the main body of the automotive circuit network. Without the wiring harness, there would be no automotive circuit. The form of wire harnesses is basically the same. They are all made by pressing the contact terminals formed by stamping copper materials onto the wires and cables, and then plastic pressing insulators or adding metal shells on the outside. The wire harnesses are bundled together to form components for connecting circuits.

Wiring harnesses play a significant role in automobiles, as follows:

1. Information transmission: The wiring harness is responsible for transmitting information between different electrical components of the vehicle, ensuring its normal operation.

2. Power supply: The wiring harness is responsible for transmitting power signals, providing power support for systems such as ignition, lighting, and air conditioning.

3. Protecting wires: The wiring harness can prevent wires from being damaged due to friction, vibration, moisture, etc., enhancing the stability and safety of the entire vehicle.
